I got the face plate off today and was making sure it was making proper contact with the deck, and it seemed it was doing that just fine. I will check the voltage levels later, but I still don't see how they could be the reasons that whenever the face plate is pushed to the right every so slightly is shuts off, resets and turns back on.

Anyone else experience this with a Pioneer or any other deck?

 

If voltage is fine and face plate pin connections are fine, then next step is to open up the HU. What have you got to lose when the unit is goofing on you anyway?

It could be that an internal ground (or other main power wire) is coming loose from the main-board and getting jostled just enough with a button push to lose contact.

I had a Craig cassette deck do that back in the day - The volume would suddenly drop to 1/16 of the output - a little fiddle and bang -full output again. Opened up the HU to find the volume control ground broke free from the main board. (old-skool analog volume control - infinitely variable resistor) Temperature, vibration or pressure could either cause it to make contact, or break contact.

Take a look inside, gently touch/play with the individual components in there. If you find a piece that feels loose, closely examine the solder points and see if a solder has cracked or broken free. Check everything - caps, resistors, transistors, diodes, buttons, jumpers etc.
