I'm not against used speakers. Just against "overly used" speakers. Trouble is, it can be hard to tell the difference until it's too late. MuTT is an Ebay ****, so he can weed out the deals. I'm affraid of Ebay. And if I were you, I would hang on to the SEAS woofers. If they are in good shape, I'm sure we can make somthing happen.
yer just jealous!!!!!

....from what i saw on Dima's install thread on DIY his seas are very good condition.

^ I am a moderator of another forum and this is still tame. There is still a vast amount of knowledge here and I learn stuff all the time.. no pain IMO. I shelved my ego a while back, though it may not seem that way to many, many have earned their bragging rights... Yuli comes to mind (this is safe since he will never see this since it is in the SQ thread) but we can all say Yuli is not soft spoken on the boards.
So please continue the chest thumping and the teaching

BTW I am listening to the Balboas album Heavy Surf Advisory as I type... very cool

I had never heard of them until you mentioned them, so I checked them out, very "pulp fictionish" but kinda cool.

I'm sure there isn't a huge difference; but there has got to be a loss of flux with a gap in the top plate... It has got to be cheaper to machine separate plates which I'm sure is why they are being made that way; and I'd only wonder about other short cuts..... ??

Not knocking the drivers, but it's the first thing I noticed.....

I would have to say the best midbass I have ever heard in
a car are the new JBL 660 gti comps...
they are nothing short of amazing with the musical detail
and accuracy..they go really really low and are rediculusly
tight...

they also just took home the EISA Award for "Best In Car Speaker System"

And they only cost $2000!

Nice speakers. But JBL isnt my first choice in component speaker market. Sub are a different story though.

^ Is that what those things cost? Wow. Crazy.

The drivers Dukk referred to were drivers that I have (had) in my systems. I bought a pair of the RFA-65 drivers when new and they are a great great driver. Put them in a well sealed and deadened enclosure and they will sound really great. I regretted selling them so much, I re-bought a pair off Ebay. The B&Ws I love and will be reusing them in my next build of which I'm currently....building. My previous system in my truck used them as woofers (doing all bass duties) as it didn't have a sub for a while. I competed with it like this at the USAC Western Finals in Kelowna. I didn't tell anybody there was no sub in the truck until judging was over and I had favorable comments on the bass. It even kicked out 122 dB. Yeah that sounds low, but this is two 7" midbass running IB in a pair of kicks. They work really well, but just don't expect huge volume out of them, especially at lower frequencies. Pro-sound drivers like the JBL's are best of forehead-bonking midbass at loud volumes and above 80 Hz.

I've heard a set of Seas 7" in a T-bird that I was really impressed with. Those boutique driver companies make SO many different styles of the same thing, that one could be good and one could be bad. Word of mouth is best for those kind of brands. I've also heard lots of good things about the Focal K2P or whatever their top-end 6.5" is.

The reason for the split in the top plate is for the shorting ring. It cannot be easily put there without the top plate being made in two pieces. If done right, this doesn't appreciably affect gap flux in the upper gap and the positive effects of the shorting ring can be substantial.
