If you are going to use enclosures for mids wouldn't it be better to use high end home stereo drivers? I know most seem to be 8 ohm, but with the realtively inexpensive cost of power and the general consensus that high end home stereo equipment is better sounding, it would seem to make sense to use those drivers. The main problem is that high end home speakers are not manufactured to withstand the car environment. I would also guess that at least 90% of all car audio drivers manufactured are meant for IB applications. I have tried sealed enclosures for my mids, that's what I will be going with in my Beetle.
