Head Unit Choices

Well this is my first dedicated SQ car but I was a big SPL guy when I was younger. I had a CRX that cost me $2000 and a system that nudged $9000. So I know all about the money part. But it's all for fun (and a few more trophies i hope!). Hope to see some of you guys this season, atleast at the finals anyway.

The SEAS Tweets are a metal dome and do sound very nice. Probably one of the best car tweeters thats out there. Too bad they arent very well known. I am actully using one of their home tweeters in my car. For the money I cant find a better product (i have tested about 40 different tweeters to date). The one that I am using is the 27TDC06. It a non fluid cooled tweet (which is a bonous for SQ) that has a rear chamber and an Fs of 550hz. The off axis response is pretty good and like I said it sound really nice!
thanx again guys

The statement "I have used neither so I am not about to make uninformed judgements as many here have" implies that you think I am uninformed, which is untrue. I just tend to take a lot of the things you say with some subtle underlying insult. However, if I am wrong I apologize. Now lets end this little debate.

I never implied you didn't have a clue - you took it that way. Others in this thread actually stated they did not know one piece or the other so then their opinions seem uninformed. I tried to not give an opinion.
As for the subtle insult thing, well I can't help you there cuz I write like I write but unless I come right out and call someone a dink I pretty much have no need to insult anyone. Hell I enjoy it when people actually know wtf they are talking about
I'm good for a beer though.

Well I don't drink anymore but with the hopeful job change I'll pull you over for not having a sealed enclosure and we can bs then. I hope that I'll be posted in the lower mainland and on my days off can still work in this industry.

How do you like those Seas tweets? Are they the Lotus Reference tweets? If so, are they the silk or aluminum dome? I ask because I am considering getting a set of Lotus Reference components.

Check out Elite Car Audio...there's always a big SEAS discussion there.

He opted to sub the silk tweets into the set for the aluminum tweets. They are arriving from Norway shortly I believe.
As for your custom crossovers, do they have different crossover points and slopes than the crossovers that come with the set with the aluminum tweets? Do you know what the changes are? Did Seas automaticly switch to this crossover when you opted for the silk tweets? Or did you have to specifically ask/pay more for them?
I sure hope the crossovers in the set I have found are designed to work with the silk tweets.

I'm not getting them from a group buy, I'm getting them from another guy off there. The Lotus set does not comes with silk dome tweets yet..it's a special order. The crossover points have been changed to run the tweets at a higher freq...this feature is useless to me since I use an Active crossover anyway.

I support them because they produce a very reliable product that is at the top of the market right now .
They make some nice decks but in terms of SQ they arent close to eclipse. [/QB]
after having read much of this thread and reading the quotes it prompted me to check my warrantee log books, from dec 2000 to dec 2002 we sold 78 cd player(mixed 5440,5441,5441r and so on)now of the 78 sold we sent 41 for service at least once(as you can imagine we are no longer an eclipse dealer and were for 8 years)now im not saying that the eclpise is a bad sounding cd player, i believe its above average, better that the p9 or alpine 7998 or the denon or the rockford or the ......, see where im going with this, sonically i dont belive you could tell the difference consistenly, but maybe you can, but to say that eclise is reliable is a fairy tale the likes of the easter bunny(sorry for the shameless easter bunny plug)your statements are bold and you truly belive them and i think thats great to have an opinion you feel very strong about, cheers
