IMHO, I dont think the number of speakers in a system has anything to do with the end result or SQ of the system. I have never heard anyone mention that more speakers is better. A good system should be more than the sum of its parts regardless of the quantity.

I dont think this is a myth. Which is why I did not respond expressing my opinion originally.

I cant tell you how many times a guy has said "I am going to put together an SQ competition car" and the next time I see him he has MDF on his doors with 3 cutouts for the midbass drivers he has on order. It is an impression by many that SQ is like SPL where louder is better, while there is good sounding SPL, the key to good SQ is not 'more is better'. For the price of the three comp sets he has on order he could have bought a super high quality set. It really isnt about how much you spend so much as how well you spend it.

Beyma has an SQ and SPL demo vehicle that produces extremely high quality full range SQ outside the vehicle and it was balanced tonally to boot. You might have heard it at SBN this year it was lighting up the whole neighborhood playing brothers in arms by Dire Straits. I couldn't stand closer than 60 feet without fear of hurting my hearing. they had probably 10-18" woofers 16 midbasses and 8 tweeters and it was still a 2 seat vehicle to boot.

fozzz: I get that you don't think it's a myth, I got that from your first post after I threw that item up. So if you think the myth is a myth in itself, why don't you share your opinion of what does make a good SQ build?

vrdublu: To avoid the highjacking of this thread, I will make a seperate one for you to have that question answered. It doesn't really seperate myth from fact asking people why they choose what they choose

I dont think I can. It would be too easy to say go buy this and sprinkle a little of that and you have great SQ. But it isnt that easy. When I say SQ, it's probably a little beyond what the average person is after. So it can get pretty complicated. I also tend to over complicate things anyway, which makes things worse. All good sounding systems need a solid and well thought out design. That is regardless of the number of speakers, or brand of speakers or how long your cables are. You will always be limited to what level your install is at.

Actually it's a very big part of myth in car audio and audio ingeneral. People pick components based on what other people say and what competition cars use etc......The fact is a good component is as good as it's integration into the system. I have put together very inexpensive systems that put high quality drivers in a poorly designed system to shame. I just wanted to see what people's answers would be, but I'm ok with it either way.

fozzz: Pretty much what I was saying in my little novel I published on pg11 (I think). Install is critical, agreed. No matter how many speakers you have, agreed. Simply adding more doesn't make it better, it all has to serve a purpose

vrdublu: It's a seperate thread now ("Why Did You Choose Your Gear?"). It will make for some interesting convos I'm sure

This has probably already been asked in here, but I would like to know a bit more about T/A. I understand that the goal would be to fix path length differences, or at least I assume. If you fix PLD's on one side fo the car, does this not make it even worse on the other side of the car? Or does current T/A technology somehow create good imaging for both the driver and passenger. Delays effectively push a speaker from the listener, but if the driver side needs to be pushed back 3 feet to have equal distance to my head as passenger speaker, then the passenger now has twice the error he had before. I'm a little confused on the concept, unless T/A is only for the driver, in whcih case I wuold never bother with it, I would just do the best with my kickpanels and not destroy the soundstage for my gf.

So is this how it works? Or did I miss something?

How do you aim your kicks? In the middle of both driver and passanger I presume? You can setup your T/A in any way you want, depending on where you setup the mic for the listening position. It is impossible to have perfect staging for both sides of the car, with or without T/A, if you figure out how to do it LMK.

Rrolla...that's how it works...the passengers are not a consideration in this case. However, some systems allow you to save multiple settings so you can have a general setting for all passengers and a driver specific one.
