I am still new to the whole car audio scene, and slowly learning on how all components work. My Question is what makes a SQ car? what do you need? how are the comps judge? what do they look for etc etc..


any tips and advice would be great

Those are the two (mostly IASCA) SQ venues you will find being ran.

As far as gear goes, there is no real answer to what 'makes' an SQ car. Balanced realistic sound is a good place to start.

 

It's SQ when you start hearing things in your music you've never heard before IE - a hand move across a guitar fret. A good 6.5" set on high power with great imaging could own a setup of multiple different sized components poorly installed and vice versa. People say that Kicker subs aren't good for SQ but someone in the states won an SQ comp with 3 L7 10's, so it's box determinant and very opinionated. Most judges tap on the panels just to see if you're cheating, I can't see them disassembling your car at a show for proof, there's not a whole lot else, deadening, quality speakers, type of car?

what you need. my 2 cents
dynamat your car
good cd player
dedidcate one channel per driver, go with separates, tweets, mids(most important choice)
6 or 8 up front and subs
a processor ,time align, eq
best jobs require you to rewire , speakers and power upgrade
if your serious get in touch with FOZZ he is ontario's champ and is willing to help.

plan to go to shows next summer with something that works and talk to everyone.
