yeah i found a diagram for wiring them and it's pretty simple now that I see it. I'm going to have a switch on them because theres no sense in the lights being on when i'm driving and the trunk is closed so ill wire the up to the front and then probably just to the radio where I have the amps remote wire running to.

 

good idea with the remote turn on, the inverters usually have a separate power switch as well which is what I was thinking as you really only want the lights on when your showing the box off I assume.

 

So I finally got the Plexi mirrors! Only thing is they cut them to the wrong specs and it looks as if they used a hand saw to cut them out because its all crooked (Don't let Leamington Glass cut anything for you). Good thing is that everything is oversized and so all I really have to do is trim it all down and square up the edges. I started that today and I hope to get most of it done tomorow. I'll try and toss up some new pics ASAP.

 

Here are the lights that are going into the box. I hooked up two out of the four to my computer to test them out. Im pretty satisfied.





And here is some progress on fitting the mirrors. I didnt have time to take some better pictures but i snaped a quick one just to show.



she looks a little rough but thats just because i was scuffing up the inside to provide a better surface to glue on the plexi mirrors. I also started making all the pieces fit perfectly flush together so that it will all blend together seemlessly when I break out the wood filler and actually begin to finish the box.

I will probably have some more pics up tomorow. If i can finish up the mirrors I'll throw it all back together and take some better shots of the box. Progress has been very slow due to the fact that I only have one period per day to work on it and sharing the machines and tools with 15 other kids makes for annoying waste of time waiting to use something. Either way, slow progress is better than no progress and it will get done.

 

God I love fog days! I went in today and spent the whole day in the woodshop making some nice progress on the box.

Here are some pics as promised:

I got all the mirrors cut and fitted perfectly into the box. All I have to do is cut out the holes for the terminal cups and they will be ready to be glued in.







Cut out some grooves in the side of the box to run the wiring for the Cold Cathode lights behind the mirrors. I still have a bit more to take out so that it all sits in there nice with the mirrors.

 

looks nice but ewww job on the paint, i hope your are redoing that.

 

When you are all finished, take it to Best Buy and offer it to the store manager for $750.00 cash or $950.00 in product as a showpiece for the Insignia subs. I'm not joking.

Looking forward to the finished pics, keep up the good work man. IIRC the Insignia logo on the subs is green also isnt it?

 

Yeah the paint job was just a quick fix for the marks lol. The white will obviously be covered up by the mirrors and I have started sanding the oustide to get everything nice for when I glue it all together and start filling the cracks and then painting it properly.

Do you really think I could get that much for it? I am probably just going to keep it for myself as long as it doesn't sound like , in which case I was thinking of selling it on kijiji or something. And yes the insignia logo does have some green in it... I never really noticed that actually lol.
