I can drop the 8a back in my car without any problem if you want to hear it, I'm just down the road in Burlington.. Not that far away..
But take my word for it, it's a cool woofer, though, I would STILL suggest a 10-inch in a sealed enclosure... The enclosure will end up being smaller, lighter and output and efficiency will be similar... But, what do I know..
Just out of curiosity, I decided to model two options. The e8a.44 in 0.5 cubes vented, at around 30Hz, and an e10k.44 in 0.75 sealed.
The 8-inch actually has a 3dB (or so) output lead between 30 and 70Hz thanks to the vented enclosure design. I was impressed. But, that's only half the story. The Group Delay of the sealed ten-inch reaches a peak of 6.24 mSec at 32 Hz, whereas the vented eight has a delay of 14.51 mSec at the same frequency. Bottom line, the eight is going to sound slower and sloppier, in a much larger enclosure.
Just my 0.02..

Here's two you may not have heard about. Rainbow Vanadium 8" or Rainbow Power 6.9's.
There's actually quite a few 8" drivers out there. Yesterday I just slapped some DLS Iridium 8" into the door of my SUV You can also look at drivers used in home setups. Lots of choices. Jsut comes down to budget and what works.
But I'm with Dave, single 10" driver or if you can squeeze it, a single 12" that can go in a small sealed box and throw lots of power at it.

Dave - you should try and bring both setups with you if you can, the 10o and 8a, so he can hear em both. A 10 sealed would be a wicked option, anything slot ported is gonna weigh more because of the amount of wood.
Rob - You should call Jon up during business hours and you can talk to him about purchasing the woofer.

I was waiting for you to chime in Dukk!!
I knew you'd say that...
Rob, still not sure if I can spare that kinda time. If you want to meet closer, we might be able to figure something out..
fire me an e-mail at: dmac at ofsoundmind.com and we'll come up with something.

I like to contribute here and there
I'll agree though that if you are gonna take up 0.75-1.0cuft for a vented 8 you may as well take up 1.25cuft for a vented 10. Deal?
