Sorry I couldn't hook up with you on the weekend Rob, my wife wasn't feeling well, so I was taking care of her. Though, she's not as big a suck as I am when I am sick.
If you want, come out to the dB Drag event on the 10th in Kitchener. If I know you are coming, I'll bring the woofers along...
If it was my money, I'd buy an Elemental e10k.44, provided you amp is 2-Ohm stable. A small sealed enclosure is pennies (relative to that monstrous vented creation).

Why exactly is weight a big issue for you Rob? If you plan on doing solo2 or something like that, all you have to do is take out the box and voila 30 pounds lighter.
If it were my money I would pick up an 8a and go ported but if you really wanna keep weight down I would get a 10o sealed.

WOW I'm still alive
as for 8's I have some experiance with some comp cars, and alot of experiance with an Impala.
I did a MTX T5000 8 in a sunbird dash in a tube enclosure that was about 1.25 cuft. It runs of an MTX 500D, away to much power but has alot of head room. No it won't blow your head off, it's for SQ but yes it works very well.
In my car I have been playing with the same MTX 5000 8, and also a JL audio 8W3 driver in the dash Both using a 1 cuft sealed box thats braced to all high heaven. the sub is run off an Xtant 1000X (totally over kill) The JL sounded alot beter than the MTX, but the MTX got louder in the upper bass range in the 80 hz area.
But then again I'm a Sq guy looking for the right balance not to unblance the cars beside me.
An 8 will do the job. Infact I have heared an extreamly good job from a single JL 6W0 in a CRX with the Sub mounted where the battery used to be, and a tube venting the sub into the dash.
I didn't read if your looking for a SQ set up or a street pounder. Please don't say SQL, thier really is no such thing (imho).
