Old school amp

Shon, are you thinking of Dan Pohlmous' car? That was an 84 Civic I believe.

My 2 cents - who gives a damn what the numbers are? Does it sound good, and does it still work? Keep in mind that if you sell it, replacing with something that performs and sounds like the HCCA is going to cost you a LOT more.....
so what i it's not the latest and greatest
IT'S THE SOUND THAT MATTERS!

The insides are STUFFED with....stuff... lol but that's a lot of power for a pretty small amp. My Concept 75x2 amps I bought in 2002 are definitely larger.
Yes I remember those old Alpine amps. In the black extruded enclosures right? My buddy ran those amps and we won an SQ competition with them back in the day... (thinking geez I'm getting old) I'm sure he still has them in his closet somewhere. GREAT amps and yeah I know what you mean they were fairly packed, I'll see if I can snap a couple pics of how stuffed the Blade stuff is... it's crazy.
Out of curiosity how do your old Alpines compair to your new Concepts?
I've got an old Alpine V12 amp after they first came out but one power stage blew and literally melted everything on the backside of the board. It was also great... while it worked. I still have it but ever since have been with Blade, except for one exception I picked up a SONY mobile ES Gold, another cheater amp 900w/rms x 1 at .25ohm load but rated at 100 x 2. You could fry eggs on that thing lol...

Yep, those are the ones. Hey, give your buddy a call and find out which models he has and PM me I haven't tried them out yet since I got them but I know one is dead But I plan on getting it fixed and using it, along with my two Alpine 3545s

You find me an amp these days that can do this.
I hooked up my Sony ES (keep in mind 100x2) to a set of Pioneer Rev series 6.5 inch components with the gain set to 1/4 and it started to smoke the speakers with the volume set to 1/8.
You want more proof? I had this EXACT amp powering 2 older Pioneer TSW1000 subwoofers and hit hmm can't remember if it was 157 or 165db's 2 different setups with the Sony amp. Either way there is no china amp made 100x2 these days that can pull that feat off.
Pics of Sony here

After reading this thread, I'm glad i never bought one of those dinosaurs back in the old days. It seems that they're only good for lots of power at ridiculously low impedances, and getting very... set your car on fire...hot. While they may be marvels of engineering, which is debatable, they really don't have a purpose. I had reasonable, useful, old school stuff...punch 45, 75, 150, and the odd Orion 280 gx and Hifonics amps circa 1985-88. These were great amps and did sound very good, but my current RF punch does much more and sounds at least as good. Anyway, you guys keep it up, it's always fun.

So what about the new JL 1000.1? Couldn't be 1000watts, because the company says it is! Damn them for telling what they run! Maybe they should put all of their amps in oversized white unmarked boxes, and you can pick any one you want. Doesn't matter which one it is right? I mean, the corporation has no idea what their amps run!
HAHAHA, how pathetic. So i'm gonna leave it up to you, joe nobody, to tell me exactly what my amps gonna run.
well I guess that's my laugh for today...

Anyways, not all the high-current amps got super hot but the first gen HCCA's did develope this reputation and rightly so.
A JL1000/1 doesn't need to be put in any larger of a case; it's already too damn big for a 1000watt amp. Hell you could likely fit four Memphis 1000D's in the same footprint.
