Talking Old school amps rock and allways will.

I just love threads like this.
It's nice to know that today's car audio still has some historical support.
Today's amps are just not the same and for obvious reasons...cost.
Anyway, I'm not adding more old school amps to my collection.
It's funny that even my wife appreciates the old stuff yet not as much as i do..
Remember if it has lasted up to this long it's going to last for a very long time.
I see so many amps that are sent back to repair shops and they are all newer amps.
I guess that is the case you get what you pay for...
I"m going to do my car this summer very soon and I'll post some pics. So far i have the deck installed.
hehe.
See ya all later.
Old school rocks.

Thanks for all the support.

In all honesty, I don't care if the amp only pushed 800watts. The sound I get off of it is incredible, and I spent $350 on a huge alternator so why not give it some use?

Also, as much as class D is efficient it is distorted. I'm all about clean sound more than efficiency, and for me class A/B is a no-brainer.

I love the old a/d/s orion, i sold all my old hcca system to go with the PG titanium elite's with 2 titanium 1200's, but it just didn't have the sound I loved so much with the orions, so now I'm back for good with HCCA's.

PS - and i loved the comment saying if it lasted this long it'll last for a long time still - that's what my philosophy is.

It was an easy 900watts rms from what I remember (900 or 990 @ 1%THD from what I recall I can't think of the exact specs). I think the reason it was so loud is because the inside of the truck was like a second box, amplified the heck out of the bass. But it was that many db's, you should have seen some peoples faces. Shocked! I still can't believe it to this day but people could hear me comming from a mile or so away.. LOL. And the bass was tight!

Agreed 100%!
The woman loves my old school amps with my old school speakers. The old amps kicked the tar out of a set of new Pioneer REV's (started to smoke) and they sounded like garbage. Threw in the old RF reference stuff with the Blades and Sony and she is lovn' it. Clean clean clean... New speakers just couldn't handle the current.. lol

You find me an amp these days that can do this.

I hooked up my Sony ES (keep in mind 100x2) to a set of Pioneer Rev series 6.5 inch components with the gain set to 1/4 and it started to smoke the speakers with the volume set to 1/8.

You want more proof? I had this EXACT amp powering 2 older Pioneer TSW1000 subwoofers and hit hmm can't remember if it was 157 or 165db's 2 different setups with the Sony amp.

A few things here.

You are proud cuz you smoked a speaker? Good for you! 100s of morons do that every year - you are as talented as they are!

157 or 165? ON a pair of Pioneer 10s (yeah TSW100s - BFD) What's that sound?? Ohhh, that's your credibilty being flushed away...

You don't even know my setup.. man... I guess I have only one emoticon for that: Go back to hanging out at the junior high, deafening everyone with your 10s..

So what about the new JL 1000.1? Couldn't be 1000watts, because the company says it is! Damn them for telling what they run! Maybe they should put all of their amps in oversized white unmarked boxes, and you can pick any one you want. Doesn't matter which one it is right? I mean, the corporation has no idea what their amps run!

HAHAHA, how pathetic. So i'm gonna leave it up to you, joe nobody, to tell me exactly what my amps gonna run.

well I guess that's my laugh for today...
All I ask for is some bench proof. You can't supply it so you want to talk smack. Yeah, I'm joe nobody..

I don't give a damn what you run. Sit there and think you have, what, 10, 12, 18000 watts in a daily driver? THAT is comical Go join Faststang with the other high school kids

Reality is over here boys - stop by sometime

Well, if the old school stuff is so amazing, why have all the spl records been broken. I remember the van loads of amps and subs back in the day, none of them hit 180 dB's. Infact, those amazing( I'll admit they were in the day) 1500 watt amps, are just that...1500 watts. A watt is a watt, whether a Chinese person put it together or a Good ole boy. With regards to the SQ and amps...see Mr. Clark!!! As far as reliability, many more amps are built today for a larger number of buyers= more sent for repairs, it's a numbers game. I recently spoke to a prominent independant Amp repair facility that repairs most of the brands we all use. His comment, when asked what he thought of the new RF amps;" I get a few RF amps, but they sell so many that it's not even an issue. They use very good parts and are very well built, and offer excellent service when I need parts. Most of the problems are from user error, overheating due to bad install, and improper wiring for the correct load." Anyway, continue discussing this is a fun thread.
