Why do you think that is?

the way a speaker really works hasnt changed but the materials that designer has access to has changed dramatically over the last decade, and therfore the way they go about designing them has dchanged, and the cars today sound better than the cars of 10 years ago by a long shot imo

I wouldn't say they suck, just that I don't see the point. Vented subbass makes sense to me, but not midbass.
Without the time alignment, dash mounted midranges and tweeters often exhibit harsh side to side bias. Back in the day the fix was a center channel. That brought it's own problems and people moved to the kickpanel.

DWVW and I have both played with sealed and vented midranges, although admittedly I have not stuck a vented midrange in a car - but that is due to my realization that it is a waste of time. Sounds like Dereck agrees also, as do most of the professional installers that have commented in various threads on this topic on this board.
Apparently your results differ from everyone else.
....and are you ,Derrik, and Tim everyone else?If you are this website is getting weak!!!

^ You're such a humanitarian Dave.
theboy - you need to relax. I used the word "often" with regards to side to side bias. And it does happen more often than not. James did not merely drop his tweeters onto his dash.
As for the other - Tim, Dereck and I were "everyone" offering input in the discussion so YES indeed we were everyone else. How about you try to offer some intelligent input? THen you might be part of everyone too.
Oh and Dave - my apologies, I did not answer your question:
Why YES I have. Funny you should ask...

have you ever designed and built your own speaker?
I never said James dropped his tweeters on the dash!PEI330ci has alot to say but not on your side of the page,so he is not "everyone else" however he has legit points coming across.I listened to Daves car with my own two ears and it sounded increadable, and with the new gear and install.....soon to find out!!
Anyone know the max air velocity from a ported midbass before it starts to sound noisy?
You guys may be right about it not being worth the effort....lot's of obstacles...this job is turning into a challenge. Just don't want to waste the effort.
I get mach .08 with a port that fits.
No picks uploaded yet...maybe tomorrow.
