A Debate on the many different aspects of sound
Well almost 2 weeks (between paperwork) and my doors are finally wrapped.
I sure hope the extra db's are worth it.
There was a quite a lot of extra work involved to port them: testing for T/S parameters, constructing a suitable port, and determining the interior volume of a complex shape before building it (in the end, I used my best guess).
I'd have to say a week of thought, and effort at least....so no wonder there's not more ported doors out there.
I'm kinda wishing there were better speakers going in this thing...nothing against the Powerplants, but considering the final cost of the doors....well...
I'll be measuring the actual volume today, and adjust the ports down a bit if neccessary. Still have to do a bit of work on the flare anyways.
I'll post a pic or two later today.

Yeah...we're really lookin forward to it...should be a treat...the last show of their last (so they say) tour in North America. Hopefully be a few special guests.
Anyway...got to try a door panel today! Woo Hoo!
The ports do indeed make a huge difference in the mid-bass spl, and there is a lot less excursion than when the port is plugged.
I tried lowering the tuned frequency, and no audible advantage with the amp crossed over at 60hz, so I think all the careful planning worked out.
Now if I could figure out how to do it in a day!!!

after spending the last 2 days with 2 speaker engineers and perhaps one of the best installers in the world i have decided that perhaps the debate isnt worth having with some people. i learned more in the 2 hours i had with them than any amount of experimenting could have ever given me.
Well I appreciate you giving me the motivation to do something out of the norm. It's gonna sound pretty impressive, given the drivers I'm using. The ports will fire right into the passengers laps, and though it may not be the most phase coherent system, I think it'll do alright. The girls'll like it, and that's what counts in this case.
Next issue is whether or not to port the rest of the drivers, and how will different port tunings interact? I'm thinkin to port em all, and deal with the phase with processing if neccessary.
I've got 2 12's with 1kw, and perhaps a set of 10's in the rear sides with about 400 watts.
Going to run the 2 comp sets with the passive crossovers, one set of tweets already in the dash, another set into the kicks I think, and parallel em.
Any thoughts?
Sorry, but no chance to upload pics today...maybe tomorrow.
