I personally think that the H900 is worth every penny, but since there's no way short of winning a lottery that I never bought a ticket for, that I'm ever going to be able to afford one. and since I can buy a car for less than the F#1 combo would cost me, I'd rather concentrate on an install where I don't need time or phase alignment, with standard (though better than normal) crossovers, and good componants, and get the install right, so I don't need 6 grand worth of processing to get it to sound right. I'm sure that once I was done, the H900 would be able to help me tweak things, and get that last couple of percent, but really, If I can't afford it, and won't be able to afford it in the forseeable future, why speculate?

And to answer the earlier question, of have I ever heard one, no, I have not, however, I've never heard any good processor, or crossover, because they shouldn't be able to be heard. A good processor should not be heard, it should make changes subtly, and seamlessly, so that you can't hear the processor itself.

Dereck, earlier in this post the differences were discussed.

Features aside, it would depend on the vehicle and weather the windows were down to notice the difference between the 2 while driving.

Now, I've come across another problem with my system that is slightly related to the H900. I find the imaging so distracting that driving safely becomes somewhat difficult. What I mean, is that it's easy to forget that you are driving and get pulled into the musical soundscape. This, to me, is an issue. So I'm currently experimenting with a preset that will give good sound to all passengers, but will not image. It sounds silly, but I've pulled over a couple times listening to Rap music...I could have sworn the sirens were real!

Since I purchased the H900, no less than 4 members of this board have followed suit. In every case, the purchasers revealed shocking improvements to the SQ of their system. But considering the price, it would be embarassing to admit to anything less. Just the same, I'm not calling BS on this one, as I can relate to those statements very easily.

defro,

Up until now, I've been civil with regard to percentages when describing the differences in SQ between various peices of high end gear. Some of this has been to allow people to relate a certain point of view without complicating the terms of describing this phenomenon. Until now....

I can't break it down into percentages any more because it simply betrays the emotions that such peices of equipment allow the music to express.

There have been times where certain peices have yeilded massive improvements to the sound of my system. These peices simply made what ever emotion I felt listening to a certain peice of music, become more intense. That, to me, is the real expression of SQ.

My "installation" hasn't been very good from the start, and I've expressed this many times. I don't have the illusion that magic processing will fix this.

What I do have, is an increasing curiousity of why things sound the way they do. And along these lines, questions of how we as humans interpret acoustical energy. Trying new approaches in tuning helps me learn more about all of the above. The H900 is a learning tool, one that easily allows me to explore my questions on the above. At the same time, I enjoy music with a new found clarity that I thought could only exist in a house.

So in this capacity, the H900 is my listening "lab".

I can't imagine selling it...ever.
