give em' a couple of weeks to break-in, you will notice quite a difference! I have the 165KP's (same tweet, different 6.5 without phase plug) running off of a JL 300/4 bridged 150wrmsx2. Set 50hz-up with flat eq on the bottom end these things soak up the most bass-heavy crap I can throw at them without complaint, kick drums have all kinds of detail I never noticed before and you can feel some snare drums in your chest. Pretty damn impressive for 2 6.5's running free-air in my doors!

Took the door panel off today and look closely on the dynamat guess what I found? Holes!

Spend about 1 hour to cover all these holes and add extra 2-4 layers around the speaker. Yes the midbass improves now, but just a little..

I've also noticed that the metal sheet that k2p is mounted on is not solid at all. I knock on it and I can see the whole k2p and the baffle rattling. That's not good. I guess more dynamat is needed.

Did you attenuated your tweets? I hear good midbass after turning up the volume but tweets hurt my ears.

^ Nice sound clip!

from the sound clip.. it does seem a bit bright. almost sounds like the tweeters need to go down atleast -3db in the x-over setting. and when you were up close to the midbass driver.. the midbass seems to sound normal.

Q: with the subs playing..... does the midbass increase or decrease?

BTW: how did you upload your sound clip? it seems like the overall quality and the highs is much better then mine. (i do realize you have a nicer camera then mine... )

Another plus to going active and byamping is unsurpassed intensity control . Also the tweets mellow out alot when the passive xover is not used .If this is not in your plans for now ok , but the next time you get an itch to buy something byamping these speakers WILL make the biggest differance in the world .

This one I used my $200 fuji to do it cuz the Nikon dslr, and any other dslr, doesn't record video. The original size was ~150mb so I used a program called WinAVI to convert to Divx file and shrink it to 27mb without too much quality loss. Then uploaded it to a hosting space.

Yes if I put my head closer to the mid midbass is ok but normal position it's kinda bright. Now I am going to try the sound with woofer on and maybe do -6db instead of -3db on the tweets.

yeah, tweets are in the sail panels so I have them at -3db, I also have the upper mids cut -1 db on my eq (~5khz), this takes out most of the tweet's harshness at louder volumes. For less bass-heavy music I have an eq preset that boosts the 80hz by 1 db which gives a bit more oomph on kick drums. The interesting thing is that I did a really half-assed job of sound-deadening my doors, LOTS of holes but I do have mdf spacers between the mids and doors. It would probably sound way better if I sound-deadened properly, but I'm getting a newer car this spring so screw it.

Just turned the tweets -6 and it's batter now. Not so bright not so dull either. -7 is a bit dull. Will do another video clip tomorrow. Enough tuning for today will go have a cruise tonight and finally I can enjoy my music now.

Do you have enough depth behind the speaker grill to bring the speaker 3/4" closer to it? If you do then you could add a baffle made of MDF.
