Question Install issues/crackling

Re: 2000 Sunfire GT w/monsoon.

Previous work:
Replaced HU with Pioneer DEH-8600MP
Replaced rear 6x9s with Infinity 3-ways

Now:
Trying to install new JBL 6x9s since one infinity was slightly blown.
These speakers include a crossover (using both woofer and treble terminals which my Infinity's did not have, but the original monsoon speakers did have, or at least I assume since there were two sets of both red and black wires)

I think when I had the infin's installed the guy connected the two red (treble?) wires together from the car wiring and only connected one black (woofer?) cable, [while tucking the other black away] to the Infinitys - I think this may be causing the problem now.

Now I'm trying to install the JBLs with the crossover..Here so I connected the two reds from the car wiring to the red of the new JBL crossover, and the one black to the new JBL crossover. The speakers make a crackling popping noise when volume is turned up (not loud by previous speakers standards).

Any ideas? That was the only issue I could think of since the Infinity did not make this sound previously...unless it is the speaker but I tested both and they are brand new.

Or do you have no idea what I just wrote?

I think most of us will be confused by what you said, but i have an idea, and we're going to need more info.

The monsoon system includes a factory amplifier. Did you replace or by-pass that when you installed the old 6x9's?

Now you're trying to run component 6x9's? How are they powered? From the pioneer deck? From the factory amp? or did you have a real amp installed?

My GM factory amp was 4 ch in, with 4 bi-amp outputs. Hi & low to each factory component speaker. My guess is the monsoon was similar.

Running a pioneer HU, you should have a real amp for 4 ch plus a sub or 2 and amp.

I got asked the same question when I posted at j-body.com

First, these are JBL power series, but not components..they are still coaxial.

Second, yes, apparently if I do not have another amp hooked up I believe they are still being run through the factory amp, or so I was told from a rep at Best Buy. I'm not sure if the old 6x9s were by-passed when they were installed, but I do not have an amp driving them (at the time I still had factory deck in there). So they should be running off the deck + factory amp - is this the issue?

Yes i'm pretty sure the monsoon is the same, high and low cut-off to each speaker.

Unfortunately I dont have the money to drive those speakers with an amp, because I bought a 2-ch amp for a Sub I will be installing in the next week as well.

Hope this clarifies.

I would by-pass the factory amp, and run your speakers directly off the pioneer deck.
Or, get component speakers and run the off the factory amp, the way it was meant to be.
I can't see a good way of mixing the 2 types of systems.

Maybe somebody else can come up with a better solution?
Good Luck!!

Thanks for the support..

what would involve by-passing the factory amp? does that mean re-wiring a new line from the deck to trunk, if so..could I do that myself or how much would that cost at a store?
