Well, the Mac and the Pioneer are surprisingly similar in MANY ways but in one way will be yin and yang, the full featured unit vs the no feature unit. I like my CD7100 too but it really isnt as good as either of the other two at getting the truth from the ones and zeros on the CD.

I have not used any Pioneer headunits to this day(in my own system). That is nice to hear they are very similar sounding units though. lol, its about as black and white as it gets between these two deck feature wise. Which will be a nice touch if i decide to get into comps this summer.

P.S. That doesn't mean retail prices, and yes it involves time and research and devising a plan and working the plan.

as far as that comparison...
the DSP is 5 times faster than the 800 and 880
...i think the copper chassis was lost on one of them
... brand new cd mechanism getting rid of vibrations
...31 band eq for each channel
...faster clock
...more accurate t/a
...1 24 bit DAC dedicated to each of the 4 sets of preouts
....lossless connection to mp3 devices...dynamic s/n ratio of 120db
...symetric l/r pcb
...everypreout can be crossed from 20hz-20k hz..
....and that ability to do 4 way is amazing
...the list goes on an on. the 800 and 880 are nice, but for what this thing boasts..you can't even remotely compare them.
from what it is looking like, even the drz-9255 is amateur next to this thing.
you are entirely right though. you can build a decent system on that price. but that difference is what separates a great headunit/system from an amazing one.

ya you are just around the corner eh. once i get it in and setup definitely!
i am pretty sure i have made up my mind to wait for the release up here. although the novelty of having a japanese unit is cool..i would not be using the amp it comes with..and even if covered by warranty, it would be a huge hassle if something went wrong.
speaking of pioneer, are they in trouble? with the loss of the premier line. they don't make tvs anymore. whats up?
