thx!,
i'm excited for it. this should be the last headunit I will buy for a long time.
...then again, so was my last one. lol
next up is an ipod! which leads me to another question.
i have always used a Zune, as I did not want to give into the ipod craze, and they simply sounded better.
now that I am going to get an ipod, i am wondering, which is better with this headunit, a itouch, or the big drive classics?
do you notice any difference in the integration between the two? lag time, etc. (i read that you have used your classic and your sons touch so i figured you would be the one to ask!)
....also, any insight into sound quality between the touch and classic using headphones? i don't want my westone 3's to go to waste:P

I like the iPod classics because they hold up to 160gigs and are easier to use as sole music players. The touch has many features along with audio functions. For this reason it can be a hassle to quickly skip a track or even pause. As for the p99rs, I imagine you can control all the ipod functions through its interface making the my previous points, pointless.

oh yeah! and i paid much more due to my impatience...
like i said with the p01 it did not bypass the ipod DSP since the EQ was still on and i could hear the distortion when on. Off it sound superb, and with ALAC i was not able to hear the difference from an original CD. The 6th gen classic have the best sound (of all classic) but if you can find a 5th gen and do the imod then the 5(5.5)th is superior. As for the iphone/touch it supposed to use the same DAC as the 6th gen but the signal path is not as good.
I needed to reboot my sons touch so that the deck recognize it...The only "good" headphone i have are the Sennheiser HD570 and they sucks so i couldn't find any difference between the 6th and the Touch. So go with the 6th gen, you will have plenty of storage for those big ALAC files and will probably sound better than the touch with your headphone.

thats exactly the info i was looking for. thanks alot.
i've decided on a 6th gen 160gb classic.
.....i've already started re-gathering all of my music in .m4a in anticipation for the unit.
as far as the price, someone has to pay for these new units!! otherwise they will never hit the used market in years to come!
...mine won't be hitting anytime soon though:P

cool, btw i use dbpoweramp to convert my FLAC collection to ALAC, it's fast and work like a charm.
