Yep !!

The Scary install section that used to be on my website showed many examples of "buddies" work.................

The biggest thing is people need to know their limitations..........................I can wire the crap out of a car...............think I'm going to wire my house ??? nope...............I can wrap anything in vinyl or any other type of material.........think I'm going to recover my couch ??? nope..............

To quote Paul - "This is not a DIY vs. Pro nor is it an Online vs. Retail discussion."

So why are you two turning it into one?

Tim - I'm still curious as to your answer to my question. Scroll up the page to reread.

I never actually said that was my opinion or stand on things....................but since you ask..........

Mainstream companies have the money to invest in designing speakers and know how they are going to work, my concern with the "Non mainstream" is that there are SOME of them that have no R&D at all and simply buy the speakers from a speaker manufacturer then design their marketing around that speaker and don't really know what the speaker can do or how it will perform.

To simply buy a premade speaker and put your logo on it and claim it's the cats ***..........then when that speaker is no longer available they buy another premade one, put their logo on it again and now claim that one is the cats *** I think is just dumb, if your going to claim you design your speakers then do that..............

A few years ago USD sold a series of drivers, they buy the drivers from a US speaker company in the midwest..........I can't remember their name but the speaker were always shipping in a white box with a small american flag n it.........anyways...........the speaker manufacturer had a part number on the driver..............well that same speaker with that same part number was used by about a dozen companies including Petras, Dr. Crankenstien and several others..................

Basically I think the marketing of most of these basement brand speakers is a bunch of BS.................so I guess my issue is with who they try to make themselves out to be and not the actual product........

It's like MB Quart, Canton and Magnat...................at one time it all came out of the MB Quart factory in Germany.................yet Canton and Magnat claimed their product was different, yet anyone with a brain could see the product was the same except for the grills..............

Tim I'm not understanding your point in that last statement. Many mainstream company's share identical products with others with the exception of a logo change. Not much spent on R&D there.
A smaller comapany may use off the shelf parts but they put together a product that works for a designated application. Sometimes better than any choice from a mainstream line.
What's the harm there?

DD - a small internet company yet they make some fine drivers that sure do well in the lanes.

ED "A" series - a small internet company with a driver that performs very well. Personally I don't know of a driver that can do what it does at the same price point.

My point - the small guys have proven themselves worthy of competing in todays market. Not just for people to have something "different" but because it may open up some very fine choices in what they are searching for.

I don't know if my point came across, buying the parts to make a woofer is one thing, my beef is with the companies that buy the woofer complete and claim they built it..........R&Ded it...........designed it and then you find the exact same woofer in a parts book............

And yes some mainstream have done it and I think it's eaqually gay, but there are some mainstream that have done it but haven't hidden that fact............

make more sense ?

I agree with you 100% on that but I don't feel it's right to lop all the small comapany's into that designation either.
