SPL Competitions

^^^ as a compedator. but as a vender u do these events to atract and expose people to your store so if it is a good time for a non compedator u are that much more likely to acheive the above. not to mention many compedators like to show there stuff off and if there is no one there to check it out there is that much less of a draw! topless women on the other hand will scare half of the crowd away unfortunatly but i do agree with the basic priciple of needing entertainment. lol

n heated?? you trying to say something ?
lol
in GTA we did have a couple great shows..even tons of americans would come to it now what happened???
pure car shows Speedorama is the first to die... now we've even lost Audio Thunder... hmmmm what does the name suggest?? AUDIO...but its mainly show cars now that have the $$5-10K ++ installs sure great to look at but how many can afford that
it looks like its up to the shop that are left out there to help promote... and the old timers to try and even motivate the new comers not just laugh in their face because a cheesy install... seen it happen... why would that new guy ever wanna come back???
sure **** an as$ might attract a few guys but they'll be busy watchin TnA not the SPL show ... you got friends...ask them if they want to come along for the show with you! might catch their interest

My 2 cents
Haven't been on much as of late but read this thread and have to say to somthings that I have read here the TNA thing it's leagal to go toppless in Canada but the difrence between here and over there is there the nudity is no big deal here you still get the reaction as if it's the first time you have seen TNA at finals during the late party one of the girl a guy did somthing that changed the mood of the party lets just say end resault 6 mariens walked him out. as for making shows work it's what we offer at the shows SPL we have seen is not enough we have seen that and there has to be room for a more wide veriety of where people can play last year Richard W. started the CSPL league went to hang out at the show at Stereo Conections in Cambrige under the rules he had made i was not alwowed to comete thats was fine by me I was there to suport the show and answer question that some people ask me gave tips to some. Yuli and some of the vets got together and started the OSPL which they added in to sanctioned shows. No mater what we come up with it will cost money not much today doesnt I can only say is we need to make more room for guys to play (more compition classes) surprise awards like if some tried there best and ended with the lowest score of the day

The only thing that I see being a problem with shows is advertising.
I can't even guess how many 'small' shows around Ottawa I've missed over the past few years because they were advertised so poorly.
You get shops that want to hold shows but all they do is post up some flyers in their own shop. I guess they miss the idea of gaining new business because advertising to your regular customer base is not going to do that for you.
As Yuli mentioned, advertising on CCA is also not good because we're generally the 'hard core' competitors that the shops aren't generally trying to reach out to.
Shops need to head out to car shows and local hang outs to get people interested.

my 2 cents:
As a sanction promoter...... and competitior...... and a part of a team that is part of a shop that holds shows......, i think that you have had great shows in the east and have had a bounty of shows in the east at one point. prolifik is right. shows=money.
no money.....no show
there arent enough fanatics to keep it going. the fad is changing.
i had recently come to know this about the west:
west used to have amazingly big shows with up to 100 competitiors at each show. mainly sq but it was not 20 or 30 or even 50. it was 90+ at each show. i didnt know that . but 3 years ago when we started there was only one iasca show in bc(krazy eddies or pete's tv) and about 6 db drags in bc(visions). and only about 10-20 comneptitors at each show.
what happened. why did it go sour?.... fighting?.....loss of interest?.... lack of support? not sure what made this change happen. but it wasnt till we took the bull by the horns along with james chevrette(usaci) and ray choy(db drags) that it seemd to make more shows happen. min of 20 shows in alberta and we had about 15 min here in bc. guys like dave oakley() took the bull by the horns and made the stores have shows.
new guys are always coming out. daves show had over 70 guys. shows here have had the similar 20-30 guys come out but only to those shows that gave it 100% effort. some shops have totally bombed. others grow each year.
there is one common denominator that makes the show very successful.....and that is making it fun for the spectator. dave has a rock climbing wall. we have mini events (eating competitions). others have show and shines. what ever it takes to make the spectator come out and leave with a sense of fun. "man what a good show..can't wait till next year". as long as we keep on supporting each other..
hope this info helps.

i myself as a new competitor, was attracted purely for the love of bass. Dave oakleys shows were some of the best i have attended , as he interacts very strongly with the crowd ie: those eating comps, the boxer races. I drive from wehre i live to vancouver every few weeks for competition and happily pay my 40$ entry fee cuz i'm addicted. i think we just need to get more people that addiction i try to bring new people to every comp last, year i got 20 of my friends to come out(at dif shows of course) and everyone enjoyed themselves..i think thats the best way to get more people iinterested..just drag them along

the a=nsewr to this question is easy. most shop owners are too lazy to put the time in to organize and promote these shows. they take alot of time to promote properly if you want to do them inexspensively. i spent hours and hours of the phone, emails, cca and things of that nature. our advertising cost were very little. we never had a show with less that 40 cars(except kamloops) at every show we charged 20 dollars, you at the very least got a cool shirt and very likley some sort of prize, our suppliers were very good with helping us out with all sorts of prizes, in fact we gave away over 5k worth of prizes in kelowna(usaci/dbdrag western finals) and these werent cheesy prizes, im talking amps, subs, sattelite radio, 1000$ components speakers. our kelowna show had over 80 cars compete and offered 7 fppt trophies for first place. people are already calling and emailing me about the western finals this year and want to be involved. being on the microphone and keeping the spectators interested is very important as well. the competitors are already there and interested. keeping the future competitor involved is even more important. the shows also have to be consistant, 1 a month for 5 or 6 months, keep it in the consumers face
spl only shows cater to a smal percentage of potential competitors. spl only shows will always fail(less than 20 cars as far as im concerned). for a show to be successful, 40+ cars, you have to cater to everyone, bassrace, sq, spl, cover all bases. why go throught all the trouble to have a show to appeal to half or less than half of those who would potentially compete. shop managers and owners by and large look for immediate profits from these show and dont look at the long haul. we donbt so these shows to make money at the show. its a long term investment in the car audio industry in our respective markets, and should be looked at it that way

So local shops should pay for the shows...then consumers should buy gear off people like you online...????Im confused! Why dont you host a couple shows this year.....its great advertising.
