Just a little tidbit of info I'd like to share with the people on here.
There is some additional info that goes along with the "potential" Canadian location.
1. Canadian competitors are only allowed to compete at the Canadian location (meaning US competitors are not permitted to come to the Canadian location)
2. There will be a minimum competitor requirement in order for the location to be finalized and approved (this is what I understand from the powers that be)
More thoughts and info to come... just thought I'd share that for now

#1 means that the Canadian final location will not have a big turn out. 20 competitors MAX (I would guess even less then that). Which will mean a "one and done" location and Canada wont have another chance.
I would love to see a finals location in Ontario but to see it turn out badly is not something that i would like. Im just being realistic
why not use the Buffalo location for this years finals as it is already established and then find an Ontario location for next years finals?

see, neither the canadian location nor the buffalo one are being paid for by db drag, it is all done out of the pocket of those who are trying to make it happen so as far as db drag is concerned it's easy money for them.
this is also why there is yet another west coast location, it is all paid for out of somoone's pocket.
we need CSPL back, badly.

Chris, the answer is simple. Db Drag is desparate for money, two locations means more sanction fees in db drag's pocket.

the buffalo location is being paid for by Psychoacoustics
IF...there is a canadian location, it will be paid for by...Psychoacoustics
so as it stands right now, Psychoacoustics needs to shell out over 13500 uds to make buffalo happen....good thing we have Some SPONSOR help...powermaster...cactus sounds...dc sound labs...second skin audio...crossfire...So yes SPONSORSHP is key....more manufacture support, more opportunities
and yes CSPL should come back...we have a nice rookie league near us called TNESPL...which by the will be making its way to ontario in the form of Don Doyle

i find that the problem with Ontario is that the ratio of those who are "trying to make things happen" vs. those who are "willing/wanting/going to participate in those things that are happening" is way off.
hats off to those trying to make it all happen, in the past and now. You got to have alot of heart to make things move in this sport.
again, and i've mentioned this before, what's required is a common effort of the right people in the right places. which, unfortunately is at a very minimum around here. we dont even have any sponsors, how sad is that?

do people really think a finals location will be successful here in Toronto or anywhere in Canada for that matter?
think about this for a second... this is WORLD FINALS... this isnt some 2x or 3x event.
In all reality if a Finals location where to be here in Toronto it more than likely would have the same result as the CALI and FL locations did.
Bottom line is this, a location here would not be a good idea and the end result would be CANADA being the laughing stock. Tell me this..
1. How many competitors can you expect to compete at a World Finals location in Toronto?
2. Who is going to pick up the tab and cover the expenses?
3. Who is going to step up and SPONSOR the event?
the list could go on...
Bottom line unfortunately is that having a location here would not go well and would ultimately fail to deliver on what a WORLD FINALS location should.

we can be the laughing stock, that's ok, Wayne has been laughing at us for years now.
1. You can expect hundreds of people, how many will actually show up is a different question. A few years ago (06-08) you could expect a decent turn out. Now? my guess is around 20 max, yes sad.
2. psycoacoustics as they had indicated already
3. why not PASMAG? really. there is coverage of events in europe, i bet there wont be a single sentance about canadian finals.
dont know if you noticed, but in the last few years majority of locations in north america had failed to deliver what WORLD FINALS should.
few years ago i would disagree with you, but now due to circumstances and the sport being on life support i couldnt agree more. i think it would have done well tho in like 2007/2008.
I can appreciate the fact that Wayne is smart enough to have reworked his revenue stream in order to cover his margins, he's a smart guy. However, competitors and show promoters are the ones getting shafted in the process.
He has left the cost of putting on a show, promoting the show, running the show and even promoting the db drag itself all up to the show promoters. Who, in turn, have to rely on charging high entry fees to competitors, who are also faced with the issue of being forced to pay for db drag memberships in order for money spent on entering shows to even mean anything.
Good scheme, i must agree. I just think it's the matter of time 'till the revenue stream dries up. I dont recall the last time i saw a business that last a long time without putting a single penny into promoting itself and only trying to rely on its consumers desire and passion.
again, we need CSPL back.

why does a publication (PAS) need to sponsor the event?
they are a publication and they provide coverage, isnt that what publications are supposed to do?
what about TFOne? Why dont they sponsor the event?
Whether Canada deserves a location is not in question... hell yes they deserve it.. FOR SURE... but can it be pulled off and have it be successful is a different question. The answer unfortunately is NO it cannot.
As for having seen finals in the last couple of years and how horrible they have been I've had the opportunity to do that first hand. Bottom line is this...
-location in CALI is going to be a FLOP
-location in Toronto is going to be a FLOP
-location in FL will have a "decent" turnout and I am being very liberal when I say that.
-the NY location is the ONLY shot we have at having a decent turnout and good results from. big ups to the PSYCHOS for stepping up and wanting to make it happen.

you know better than to assume that Wayne is getting rich off the freaking memberships he sells...lol... come on..
I'm sure he is siting back waiting for the dozens of memberships...lol
as for the slap in the face to Canadians that was mentioned earlier can you please elaborate on what you're referring to? Or are you simply referring to the face that Canada has not had a WF location in the past?
If that is the case my question still stand... What would of made it successful then?
