My Build Log - Chevy Dually

Well I have pondered this for years. But didnt feel comfortable making it, as well I not to forum user friendly, I cant get links and things to work , so If they dont work bear with me. I know the youtube thing does not work for me, and as far as making videos, that is not for me, I have more important things to do rather than play on computer . I have been in car audio since 92.
I have 3 kids at home and so it is tough to find time to build and this is why it taken me so long to get the build done. In 2006 I bought a merc cougar that I started to compete with, I was winning alot in my local area, and soon began to get full of **** and vinegar. Then I started to branch out and realized that beeing out of the comp scene for 10 years how much it had changed. It was nothing like the old school builds. So I proceded to move into this style and walled the cougar and went with high power and a couple woofers which resulted in major fail and big $$.. I also was gettiing a ego and was going to be louder than you. As this proceded the copmitions here fell off . There was certian group that was coming out and the noobs left. there was too much attitude and no help for those who needed and this resulted in the falling out of the compition scene around my area. so now I must travel 3 hrs or more to goto a couple events... So now the cougar threw a rod and so instead of fixing I was going to crush it, but DD queen wanted it. So I gave to him for cheap, in hopes that it will help him to get loud and to help gain another competitor in the area. I was then on the quest to be loud like dbdon and clay, so I bought a blazer but after much time in I realized this was not the way so I gave to Don for parts. I found this on kijji for 1500$. I knew right away it was what I needed. So grabbed a car hauler and took my work truck and went and picked it up, 3.5 hours away. I must admit she was fun getting onto trailer with no forward gears. but nothing a tractor would not pull on. Once got it home pulled the trans and got rebuilt for 2K$ with heavy duty parts and shift kit. Then I gave a tune up and went to fill up with gas. after 125$ went into tank I found a leaking gas tank.booo.. So back to shop and pulled tank and welded up the hole that had been patched with some gum. I also put in a pump while the tank was out. Then It was off to tire shop for some new boots, and some front end work. then it was to the exhuast shop for new 2.5 dual exhaust as it was leaking and had been scabbed together. while it was there it got new brakes and wheel seals on the rear diff.. Then it was onto the body work and then the build. so here we go....

So as the body work proceded I only have few pics, but this took months.
I also have to drive this thing every day to and from work and travel some 1/2 hr each way. It was fun and still looking at the reactions from peeps.
WHERE Did you get a Dually Suburban ? well I found it north east of saskatoon from a young lad who traded his old chevy for it. THe guy who had it before him spend the time to put the 1 ton rear end in it, as well as change over the front end. I could already the motor was weak and not near the 400 HP he claimed. ( I knew TBI was only good for 300 at best) But the rear fender had damage and so needed to be replaced. GM wanted 700 per fender and I didnt like how much they stuck out . And the work involved finishing the two pieces that buddy had cut the fender for the door..
So i sniffed the net and found place called duallyfenders usa. Here the customise in fenders and conversions. SO for 900 usd I got a set shipped out.
After they got here I went to work, But man there was so much as the original fenders were alot larger than these new ones and the dude did a hack job on the rear quarters installing them,. so welding up holes in pop cans is not a fun job. that sheet metal is a real pain in the *** to work with. I will never be a body man that is for sure. after 3 solid days I got the new fenders installed and then onto removing the roof rack and then the front end,.Where It was cheaper to replace the complete front end as it was to fix teh dings and dents.

So now it was almost ready to paint, But around here no body shop was interested. So I had find someone to do it on the side. And so finally after going through half dozen peeps one guy finally said he would do it. and 3K was alot better than the 10 K everyone else was wanting and 6 months of sundays to do it. This guy had it done in 3 weeks. Over all I am happy, but there is few things I was not happy about but can live with it.

So at this time was about may, My wife had got terrible sick and was in the hospital in stoon, and the ambulance had taken here away. So off the city i went and what an adventure that was.. cops .. hookers... all around bad incedent.. After a week in the hospital she gots to go home. but still was not well. The build was on hold for another month and half. But at this time was a 2X in cowtown that clay put on. so I put the box in her expidition and the new in box 16 kd and the 14 batts on some ascendant chaos 18s. That was an edventure as well. but the wife was getting better till after that weekend.. almost back to square one.. in the end it was side effects that a doctor had put on some psycosis drugs for some unknown reason.. But the avatar was the setup for that event... But end june the 3X was coming I had no amp, no subs no build.. hmm what to do.. SO I got ahold of the Alsniffer finally. He was coming and he would bring me amp and 24 12's... So it was friday,. I had the weekend to get build for the show as the long weekend was coming and we were going to lake for a week before the show and then to dongs house for the sub and amp install... well these pics show what happend from friday 6pm till sunday night...

So It was quite a task installing 18 subs and the amp before the show sat. Murilo had to watch his soccer game before they could leave and so he got to dons house late friday night so all subs were installed sat morning before the show. And then off course He goes in same class as me, so the 157.xx did not even get recorded. I did not even get to test before qualifying . but the bass race and demos were fun.. But there was some sub issues and the build was not what I wanted. so after the show it got tore out.

Then next months were busy and no time to build . I played with some small boxs in there and testing. then with small amounts of time I put together what it is now. 12 X 12 with 350" port tuned ?? 30 ish.. It is fun to play. the response is incredible. and It makes alot of peeps MAD.. But I love it. Drive around town and peeps are looking at there cars like somthing is wrong with it, and there is one guy who is standing on his deck long before I can see him, and when i get to the corner to turn into town I turn it down , and he jsut shakes his head and makes the impression that I am nuts... hehehe

But there is no change in the vehicle at this point. still stock. othere than behind C pillar.

Ya mang, I honestly think that this is truely one of a kind..
The kits that that dually fender usa offers only uses a wheel adaptor
to make a dually, so it is not a true one ton dually in that sense..

But this has the corparate 14 bolt diff with 4.56 ratio and big drum brakes.

The front has also been swapped to the one ton front end with the big disc brakes.
