Interesting..
Man do I feel dumb now. The XXX and the Tumult do not have the cool little black cover on the bottom, so I thought there might be something inside. The lead photo shows the driver totally disassembled, so I assumed I need to remove the cone to find what I was looking for. . . .my bad.
Anyone want to buy some Tumult and XXX15 parts?
Page 13 yet?

Maybe that was a bad joke anyway. . . .As an owner of both a XXX15 and a pair of Tumults, it is obvious they share a few common parts, but that is the normal today. How many subs do you see with the 12 spoke or 4 spoke basket????
I have worked in the automotive industry as a electrical engineer for 13 years, and part sharing is amazing. If an OEM has a part tooled, and the supplier pays the tooling, you can bet that part will end up on every OEM car the supplier can convince to buy it. This includes grinding off logos. Actually, I have seen just plain stickers put over area where logos where removed many times, but if the sticker was remover it was obvious what logo was there. And some parts just can't be hidden because they look to much alike.
I would have a strong feeling as already stated that "defective" meant there was a change to the part during the design, or it just didn't meet the tolerances Onyx wanted, or could be nothing. Also as already stated, RE is using these parts in their lower end subs, so if the tolerencs were not as tight, they are fine for the driver they have designed. I have been trying to figure out what could be defective on a driver motor. . is it cracked? out of round? I doubt it. Another thing looking at the company's drivers; even if they share the same motor, they still have diffenece that are going to lead a customer to one driver or the other. I don't think people are going to start buying drivers from RE over Onyx because they have the same motor. Heck, if anything this might be good for Onyx, as many people like myself did not even know who they were before this thread. . .
It is too bad RE did not remove the logo correctly, and it is really too bad that someone had to go a post it for everyone to see.
Just my 2 cents. . . .I am a RE fan, and would love my XXX15 if they told me they built it from trash they collected on the street!!!!

You guys want this fn thread to continue??
Whosyourdaddy: You say you own RE, an HC15? (don't know the affected se drivers), with a completely non-functional back plate cover? And you have no curiosity to pop it off to see what's under there??
I'm sorry, but for that fact, and with your lack of history here, and with your definate pro re / con onyx stance, I take your posts with a big 'ol grain of salt.
You sound like an officer of RE to me.
Everyone else: I know I'm feeling better about this...I'm starting to design a box with a plexi back and lights inside to show the Onyx engraving with the RE dustcap!

This is the post that never ends, yes it goes on and on my friend. Some people started reading it not knowing what it was, and they continue reading it forever just because...
