dawg; I asked to have this thread locked because I had grown very weary and did not want to spend my Sunday at the computer defending my position. I realize now that was selfish. I have nothing to hide. This was thrust upon me. I didn't ask for it.
I'd like to hear from hrdwrkr (sp?). Last we heard he was heading out with screwdriver in hand.

I am currently very pleased with the performance of my RE product and find no faults in the drivers performance. I do however have a sincere interest into the nature of the defect and I believe it should be clarified by RE to their customers.

Wow... this has gotten retarded.
Here's a question for you.
Would you all be as pissed if RE had machined the Onyx logo off and then some insider let this info out? Would it have mattered then?
Also if anyone wants to sell one, I'd love to own an Onyx RE... if somehow you can get some other manufacturers parts in there I'd love to own an RE/ED/ONYX/BA/Adire combo of a sub to marvel at!

The only reason people are mad, is because Onyx said they sold defective parts to RE, and they won't explain why they were defective. That's it, plain and simple.
I would just like to say thank you to all the people that have spoken out in my defense, customer or not. I would also like to say thanks to everyone that has sent e-mail and/or pictures. These last few days have been nerve racking to say the least, but we're still here and we will push forward. Thanks again for all your support!

I'm not saying that is the case, only that it is a possibility and most of the people here who seem to be trying to grill RE on this issue don't have a clue as to the nature of the relationships between the companies mentioned here and MANY others in this industry. There are milliions of possibilities and these companies are trying to be politically correct and respond in the only manner that they can without damaging or revealing confidential information.
Bottom line, both companies are turning out excellent products. I would use either one without hesitation. A situation like this simply re-enforces my opinion that both of these companies are turning out products which perform very well and are well suited to compete directly with each other.
These guys are professionals and they aren't going to act in a manner that is unbecoming an officer of a company. That is highly commendable, especially when you consider the nature of some which used to be around. You guys act like your looking for blood and the reality of the matter is that there is no need for it. Something was exposed which looks bad for RE and no one even takes the time to consider what steps they may have taken to correct/resolve the issue or even what the issue is.
The truth is, it is really irrelevant at this point. No one is having return issues with the RE subs so they obviously did something right. Who ever took the photos of that sub obviously did so with a malicous intent because they completely disassembled that subwoofer in the process. Unhappy customers don't gut the cone, VC, and former from a product if they weren't happy with their purchase. All of you have played into the hand of someone who wanted to make problems for RE. In effect, your reaction makes you all pawns in their game. Considering it further, it may not have been aimed particularly at RE, because it shows the Onyx stamp on that motor assembly. No matter who the target, I am still of the opinion that it was a deliberate and malicious act by an informed party. It's up to you to think it through from there.

As stated before. RE purchased parts from Onyx Audio that were defective. We are using these defective parts in both our SE and HC series speakers.
My sincerest appologies to Scott and all at Onyx. Again, this is a glaring oversight on my part that I did not personally see to the removal of each logo from the motor structures.
Please do not direct any of this towards either Scott or Onyx. They have a business to run that does not need to be concerned with questions regarding there fine products. Onyx is in no way connected to RE, and again, this is completely an oversight on my part.

Sorry, couldn't fit it in the quote...

1. Yes, it could be this and it could be that; lots of things have been suggested, no one here knows or is saying.
2. Because you are new you may not know that there are quite a few car audio professionals, competitors, and knowledgable enthusiasts that frequent this board. And those of us that have learned from them realize in the industry there are build houses and part sharing. It's too expensive for everyone to build their own from scratch.
3. All the RE gear I have seems to perform very well. I've never heard of Onyx MA before this.
4. We respect a company's need to take the time to respond to these types of things. And there's a very good possibility that they will never say anything more.
5. Nobody here wants any blood. And we've used the time they need to have this wonderfull thread.
6. Yes it could very well have been an inside job.
Btw, do you own one of the affected subs? No?
I didn't think so.
Thanks for stopping by, have a nice day.
